Click the Button Getting Started

Everything you need to know from the moment you launch Click the Button.

Welcome to Click the Button

Click the Button is an incremental clicker game developed by LoopCap and published on Steam. The concept is elegantly simple — click the button, receive chests, collect items, earn money, and unlock powerful skills that make your next session even more rewarding. Despite its simple premise, the depth comes from the sheer variety of items to collect and the strategic decisions you make about which skills to prioritise.

The game launched on 26 August 2026 for Windows and is available as a free Demo if you want to try it before buying. This guide assumes you are running the full version.

The Core Loop

On launch you are presented with a single prominent button. Each click does three things simultaneously:

  • It delivers a chest containing a random item
  • It adds money to your balance based on your current earnings-per-click
  • It contributes towards your session statistics and achievement progress

That is the entire core loop at the start. As you accumulate items and money, the game opens up in two directions: you can spend money to upgrade your clicking power and passive income, and you can collect items that fall into one of six rarity tiers — Broken, Nice, Expensive, Robust, Nocturnal, and Extraterrestrial. The rarer the item, the greater its effect on your progress.

Your First Clicks

Take your first fifty clicks without worrying about anything else. By the time you have opened those chests you will have a small inventory of items and a feel for how the reward system works. You will notice that most items are common, with rarer drops appearing occasionally but unpredictably.

After your first session of clicks, check your inventory and look at the item descriptions. Each item has a specific bonus — some increase money per click, others boost passive income per second, and some provide multiplicative bonuses to your overall earnings. The Items section of this wiki covers every item in detail.

Upgrading Your Click Power

Once you have a basic inventory, head to the upgrade menu. The upgrade tree is split into two branches: Click Power and Passive Income. Click Power upgrades multiply the money you earn each time you press the button. Passive Income upgrades add a per-second earnings stream that continues even when you are not clicking actively.

For new players, the recommended early strategy is to balance both branches equally. Putting all your money into Click Power at the expense of Passive Income will slow your overall progress significantly, because passive income compounds over time while active clicking does not. A rough 60/40 split in favour of Click Power in the early game is a good starting point, but feel free to experiment.

Opening the Settings Menu

Take a moment to explore the settings. You can adjust the sound volume, toggle screen shake on big rewards, and enable or disable the particle effects that play when you collect rare items. None of these settings affect your actual earnings, but a comfortable visual experience will help you play for longer sessions without fatigue.

Saving and Progress

Click the Button saves your progress automatically every thirty seconds and also whenever you close the game. Your save file contains your total money, inventory, upgrade levels, skill points, and collection completion. There is no manual save slot system — the game maintains a single continuous save. If you want to start fresh you will need to find the save file in your Steam user data directory and delete it, though this is not recommended.

Early Tips

Do not obsess over rare items in your first session. The collection system is designed to reward long-term play, and the difference between a Broken-tier item and an Extraterrestrial-tier item does not become critical until you have reached the mid-to-late game. Focus on building a solid economic foundation first.

Watch the notification feed in the top-right corner. When you unlock a new skill or complete a collection set, the game announces it with a brief popup. These notifications are easy to miss during intense clicking sessions, but they give you important information about milestones you have reached.

Demo vs Full Version

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions about the game.

Does Click the Button have an idle or AFK mechanic?

Yes. Passive Income upgrades generate money automatically even when you are not clicking. The amount is relatively small compared to active clicking in the early game, but later skills can dramatically increase passive earnings, making AFK play viable for long-term progression.

Can I carry my Demo progress into the full game?

The Demo and full version currently share the same save slot structure, but progression does not carry over automatically. Check the Demo vs Full guide for the latest details on save compatibility.

How long does it take to finish the tutorial?

There is no formal tutorial in Click the Button. The game teaches through its mechanics, and most players feel they understand the core loop within their first five to ten minutes of play.
